For the facades of the PASAKA cinema, which has been built on the site of an old wooden house, the architects have chosen a timber cladding to reflect the history of the building. The changing rhythms of the planks, which are typical of Vilnius’ wooden architecture, look really impressive, cosy and warm on the facades of the new building.
The certified thermowood used for the cladding has a natural durability. Without any impregnation, the thermowool lasts over 30 years on the facades and over 10 years on the terraces. This property is very important for public spaces and buildings, so that they do not need to be regularly renewed as is the case with conventional wood. It is true that unpainted thermowood will peel when exposed to UV rays, but the natural colour transformation no longer scares architects – it creates a feeling of warmth and naturalness.
The architects used planed thermowood tiles to finish the building and the grounds. They chose simple profiles with clean lines: dimensional stability and an eyeless surface are essential for moderate modern architecture, and thermowool is perfect for this. Another important advantage that led the architects to choose it is that it is lightweight, allowing the creation of large, graphic facade drawings and openwork walls.
